Experiment Teaching Center
The Experimental Teaching Center of School of Public Health, Xi'an Jiaotong University was established in 2002. As a very important teaching unit, it uniformly manages the facilities and equipment used in all the experimental teaching secessions, and serves for all the undergraduate and postgraduate students. At the same time, it is also an indispensable research platform opened to teachers and students of the school.
At present, the laboratory area of our center reaches 1,500 m2, including six main teaching laboratories, a central research platform and an experimental animal laboratory. In the teaching platform, there include laboratories for Toxicology, Occupational and Environmental Health, Nutrition and Food Safety, Sanitary Chemistry, Sanitary Microbiology, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health. The central research platform had functional laboratories, such as analytical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, cell culture, BSL-2 laboratory, experimental animal operating room, pathology, specimen storage, and laboratory specific for the large instrument, etc. Till now, the total value of instruments and equipment in our platform has reached more than 8,000,000.
Now, the laboratories serve for the experimental courses of Preventive Mmedicine, which are mainly for undergraduate and foreign students with major of non-preventive medicine (5-year and 8-year clinical medicine, nursing, stomatology, forensic, etc.) with an average of more than 800 hours per year. It covers more than 55 experiments including verification, inquiry, observation, design, discussion and comprehensiveness. Except that, it also serves for the students in School of Public health, where the experimental courses are Epidemiology, Health Statistics, Occupational and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Hygienic Chemistry, and Hygienic Microbiology courses, with an average of more than 300 hours per year. In addition to the undergraduate students, our laboratories are also the research platform opening to all students in all medical departments, and had 500-600 students of preventive medicine practice for students out of School of Public Health, opening laboratory for medical undergraduates, and innovative experiments for all students of the university.
Our center is a platform of “resource sharing” and “special management sharing”. The instruments and equipment are open inside and outside School of Public Health. Large-scale instruments and equipment, which are handled by specific technician, are all well-organized for use and maintenance, to make full use of the research facilities and technologies, and promote interdisciplinary collaborative research in the research level. Experimental Teaching Center is an open and shared research platform, making every effort to provide teaching, research and social services to every student and scientist.
